Athabasca River
Athabasca River in west-central Alberta, flowing past areas near Hinton and up to the Jasper National Park boundary; regulations differ by mainstem reach and tributary. Upstream of Sec. Rd. 658 toward Jasper National Park has a bait ban and very restrictive retention (Apr 1–Aug 31: trout 2, walleye 0, northern pike 0, burbot 0, goldeye 0; Sept 1–Oct 31: trout 0, walleye 0, northern pike 0, burbot 0, goldeye 0). Mainstem between Sec. Rd. 658 (near Whitecourt) and Sec. Rd. 813 (near Athabasca) is open Jun 1–Oct 31 with bait allowed (walleye 3 over 63 cm, burbot 10, goldeye 5 over 30 cm, lake whitefish 10); from Sec. Rd. 813 to the north boundary of TWP78 is open Jun 1–Oct 31 (walleye 3 over 50 cm, northern pike 3 over 63 cm, mountain whitefish 5 over 30 cm, burbot 10, goldeye 10); north of TWP78 has seasonal rules (Apr 1–May 31: trout 5 over 30 cm, walleye 0, pike 3 over 63 cm, burbot 10, goldeye 10; Jun 1–Mar 31: trout 5 over 30 cm, walleye 3 over 43 cm, pike 3 over 63 cm, burbot 10, goldeye 10). Tributaries (except Clearwater and Hangingstone) are open Jun 1–Oct 31 with bait allowed and species limits including walleye 3 over 43 cm, northern pike 3 over 63 cm, mountain whitefish 5 over 30 cm, burbot 10, goldeye 10, lake whitefish 10.
