Kananaskis River is a mountain stream in Kananaskis Country west of Calgary, near Canmore and Highway 1. Headwaters downstream to Hwy. 1 (excluding Smith‑Dorrien Creek) are open Apr. 1–Jun. 15 (bait ban; brook trout limit 2, mountain whitefish closed), Jun. 16–Aug. 31 (bait ban; other trout limit 2, mountain whitefish 5 over 30 cm, retention of rainbow and cutthroat prohibited), and Sept. 1–Oct. 31 (bait ban; brook trout 2, mountain whitefish closed); the mainstem from Hwy. 1 downstream to the Bow River is open year‑round (bait ban; brook trout 2, mountain whitefish 5 over 30 cm).
