Smoky River
Smoky River is a major stream in northwest Alberta (subarea ES4) draining the foothills toward the Peace River; the provided location is in the upper/mainstem reach of the river in the Grande Prairie region. Headwater reaches downstream to Hwy. 43 (and most tributaries) are open June 1–Aug 31 with a bait ban, a limit of 2 trout (other sizes not specified), mountain whitefish up to 5 over 30 cm, and walleye 3 over 50 cm and northern pike 3 over 63 cm; Sept 1–Oct 31 those headwater reaches remain open with a bait ban but have no trout or mountain whitefish retention, while the walleye and pike limits remain. The mainstem from Hwy. 43 to the 21st Base Line is open June 1–Oct 31 with bait allowed, no trout retention, and walleye 3 over 50 cm and northern pike 3 over 63 cm; downstream of the 21st Base Line the same open season applies, with a trout limit of 5 over 30 cm, walleye 3 over 50 cm, northern pike 3 over 63 cm and a burbot limit of 10 fish.
